Preparing for a Mediumship Session
Whether it’s your first time or not, visiting a medium can feel like an unknown or even unconventional experience for many. Some people may not fully understand what a medium is, others might have some familiarity through previous readings, and some may base their perceptions on societal, media, religious, or cultural influences.
There are certainly some myths surrounding mediumship, so let’s address the elephant in the room:
- What is a medium?
A medium is a person in the physical realm with the ability to connect with the spirit world, acting as a bridge between the physical and spiritual realms. Mediums deliver messages of guidance, healing, and closure to those seeking connection. These abilities are inherent in everyone; however, as people grow and focus on different aspects of life, some individuals maintain this connection while others may lose touch with it. Neither path is right or wrong—both reflect the unique journey of each individual, whether consciously or subconsciously chosen.
Mediums receive information through visions, sensations, or messages delivered through the spirit world. These connections provide comfort, clarity, and evidence of life beyond the physical realm. Mediumship is a deeply respectful practice, honouring both the spirits who come forward and the individuals seeking connection.
- What happens when I receive a reading?
The spirit world uniquely orchestrates each reading to bring you the messages you need to hear. That said, the medium has little to no control over who steps forward to communicate or whether the person you wish or expect to hear from will come through at a specific moment.
Every session is unique, but one thing is certain: the spirit world communicates with love and compassion.
Here are some important points to consider:
The medium’s role in a reading is to connect with and serve the spirit world.
It is not the medium’s responsibility to interpret the information but to deliver evidence of communication with Spirit and proof of life beyond the physical realm.
To ensure a meaningful and supportive experience for your healing journey, here’s what you can do as a client:
Respond with simple "yes" or "no" answers, or keep your responses brief.
Avoid elaborating. If I am mistaken, let me know, and I will return to Spirit for clarification.
- The Unexpected
I sat down, opened up, checked in with my Guides… and no one stepped forward. I remember the first time this happened—it was unsettling.
This can happen for several reasons: someone may be unwell, the energies might not align, or it simply isn’t the right time. While this can be disappointing for everyone involved, it is a natural part of the process. The spirit world operates with its own intelligence.
In such cases, the medium's responsibility is to inform you of the situation. They may offer a refund or provide a psychic reading instead.
- The Loving Space of Spirit
The spirit world is loving and nourishing. Popular media often portrays spirits as evil, demonic, or threatening, but this couldn’t be further from the truth of mediumship. Mediumship connects us with people—souls who have left their physical form but still carry their stories, memories, and lessons.
One of my teachers once passionately said, "Let’s not use words like entities or ghosts. We are talking about people, and we should treat them as people." This deeply moved me and has stayed with me ever since.
Yes, sometimes spirits may carry anger or appear intimidating, but when met with compassion and light, these emotions soften—just as they often do for those of us still in the physical realm. Anger often stems from pain, rooted in memories, unresolved matters, or things left unsaid.
From my experience, connecting with Spirit is truly a gift—a blessing. It is a place of unconditional love, offering healing and connection to everyone involved.
- Preparing for Your Session
My advice is to relax, remain open, and allow the experience to unfold naturally. Offer confirmations when appropriate, and most importantly, enjoy the process. Every medium has their own unique style, but the ultimate goal is always the same: to provide proof of life beyond this world and to offer comfort and healing.
As you prepare for your reading, keep an open heart and mind. The messages and connections you receive may surprise you. May your session bring the insights, comfort, and peace you seek on your spiritual journey.
